Sneaky Green Smoothie Recipe

Sneaky Green Smoothie Recipe #creativegreenliving
Green smoothies are so good for you. Feeding your kids spinach will give them a high dose of vitamin A as well as a good boost of vitamin C and Calcium. Combining it with nonfat, high protein greek yogurt from our sponsors at Stonyfield provides a great boost of both protein and calcium - perfect for little growing bodies!

The problem, of course, if that many kids are averse to eating or drinking green things- even when it doesn't "taste green". So what's a mom to do? Be sneaky of course!

Pro Tip:

Use frozen blueberries and a frozen banana to add thickness to a smoothie without watering it down. If desired you can add additional frozen fruit or ice to thicken it even more!

    Directions

    The sneaky green secret:

The trick to successfully hiding spinach in a smoothie is to pre-blend the spinach so that there are no telltale green bits left behind!

    Step 1:

Add two large handfuls of fresh organic baby spinach to a blender with 1/2 cup of orange juice and blend very well - make sure you keep blending until all of the green pieces are gone.

    Step 2:

Add the remaining ingredients to the blender and blend until smooth.

    Step 3:

Serve in your favorite smoothie glass (I love Ball pint size mason jars!) with a cute paper straw.

      1. You could really drink it whenever. Drinking just one green smoothie like this is great for nutritional benefits. You would need to drink more than one of these to get much of a "detox" effect.

    2. My kids love this smoothie. I make it for them for an after school snack. They are the pickiest eaters ever and they will drink the whole pitcher. I only used one handful of spinach for them and just regular stoneyfield vanilla yogurt, but it still comes out really tasty :) Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe!! I'm so glad I finally found a way to add some greens into their diet.
