Stay in Touch with Far Away Friends with an Online Downton Abbey Tea Party {and GIVEAWAY!}

This post is brought to you by Cost Plus World Market

September was a really hard month for me because my best friend, her husband and their daughter (who also happens to be my son's best friend) moved a bajillionty miles away from Oregon to Thailand. There are lots of things that make me sad about them moving so far away but one of the things I was really sad about was missing watching the (forthcoming) season 6 of Downton Abbey with her.

For the last three years, we've been getting together for Downton Abbey tea parties when we dress up (or wear pajamas) and have a tea party while watching the latest Downton episode (last year we had a big tea party - see it here). It's one of my favorite friendship traditions with her.

This year, since she is in Thailand, I devised a way to keep up the Downton Abbey tea party tradition!

Tea Party Care Package

Niina actually owns a Downton Abbey tea set but wasn't able to bring it with her to Thailand (they just brought a few suitcases). To help her get in the Downton party swing, I packaged up a gift pack to send her:

In this box I included:

I packaged it up with coordinating Downton Abbey tissue paper and some pretty green crinkle and then packaged it in a sturdy box for shipping to Thailand.

Long Distance Tea

To try and make it feel like Niina was actually with me at my house for tea, I set up the tea party like normal and then set "Niina" up across from me on my computer.

Have I mentioned how much I like tea? Last year we had the Butler's Pantry Blend - which became a favorite. This year I may have gone a little crazy buying all the Downton teas from Republic of Tea. My new favorite from the line up is the Downton Legacy Tea - which is described as a plum pudding black tea. With just a little sugar and some coconut milk, it is AMAZING. It also went quite well with the stem ginger fruit cake.

On her end, Niina had her own little tea party set up. We decided we are going to re-watch season 5 of Downton Abbey to get a refresher before season 6 comes out.

We used Google Hangouts to do a video call and then pressed play to watch an episode of season 5 at the same time so we could watch an episode and chat at the same time. It was almost like she was here!
