5 Fun Nature Crafts for Kids

As the weather warms up and you're able to get outside with your kids, make crafting part of your adventure! There are lots of fun crafts you can do with the natural elements around you or that will let you enhance your yard or garden.

This Earth Month, TurfMutt and the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute's Education and Research Foundation are partnering with Creative Green Living to help spread the word about their educational website featuring TurfMutt and the Outdoor Powers. Check it out here!

5 Fun Nature Crafts to Do with Kids

Paint Fairy Rocks

Go on a nature walk with your kids to gather rocks from your property. Set out a variety of kids safe paints and let them go to town painting them all different colors. Add drawings or words if desired with a permanent marker. Get the full tutorial here.

Ladybug Bug Jar

Help kids learn to observe bugs and creepy crawlies by making a bug jar with an empty jar from your kitchen. Bugs are an important part of your backyard eco system, so be sure to practice catch and release bugging! Learn how to make this bug jar here.

Pinecone Roses

Make a lovely bouquet of "roses" made from pinecones, sticks and craft paper! Half the fun is gathering the materials you want to use while playing outside! Get the full tutorial for pinecone roses here.

Make a Fairy Bracelet

One of my son's favorite things to do on nature walks to make fairy bracelets! Giving kids a place to gather the treasures they find while walking helps them pay attention to the little details around them instead of just walking by. Learn how to make fairy bracelets here.

Paint a Birdhouse

No matter how old your kids are, everyone loves making their own birdhouse! Birdhouses can be picked up inexpensively at your local craft or home improvement store and then painted however you'd like. Hang it in a safe spot in your backyard to encourage your feathered friends to take up residence. Learn more about painting birdhouses here.
