Creative Green Living Top 10 posts of 2013!

I probably say this every year - but it's hard to believe tomorrow will be the last day of 2013! Creative Green Living has gone through many changes - including changing our name from Carissa's Creativity Space to Creative Green Living (I like the new one lots better and I hope you do, too!). This year I hosted great posts from several guest bloggers, went to my first bloggers conference and was able to work (almost) full time from home on my blog and other online endeavors for the first time ever.

Thanks so much for coming along for the ride! Here are the top 10 most popular posts from this year. If you didn't see them when they were published originally, be sure to take a moment to check them out now!

Top Post of 2013:
Organize Your Pantry with Glass Jars & Contact Paper
If you've been putting off pantry organization because it seems too expensive or overwhelming: don't! I used repurposed jars from around my house and a $1 roll of contact paper to tame my pantry beast. Check it out here.

#2: Farm Girl Apron Tutorial from Recycled Jeans
I made this apron from a pair of old jeans for my step mom for her birthday. I've since made several in different styles but this original is still my favorite. You'll need to know how to sew, but I walk you through everything step-by-step so even an adventurous beginner could make this. See the tutorial here.

#3: How to Make an Etched Glass Water Bottle
Things I made as gifts seem to be big hits this year! This water bottle was made for my sister for her birthday this summer. It's not hard to do but the results are definitely impressive! Learn how to make it here.

#4: 15 Beautiful DIY Crowns & Tiaras to Make
I put this collection together for International Tiara Day but it's been a hit for parents looking for crowns and tiaras to make for birthday parties, Halloween and New Year's Eve. With 15 to choose from, you're sure to find something that fits the style sensibilities of your favorite princess. See the collection here

#5: Why We Said NO to the Measles Vaccine
When CNN ran an inflammatory news story earlier this year blaming parents of unvaccinated children for a measles outbreak in Texas, I felt compelled to respond. I don't oppose vaccinations across the board, but some vaccines come with a a higher risk of complications than the disease itself. Read the reasons why we chose to say no to measles vaccinations.

This is seriously one of the easiest kitchen tips ever. Not only does it keep your onions from going moldy before you can use them, but it speeds up meal prep time in the kitchen as well! Learn how to preserve onions here.

#7: How to Get the Look of Vinyl Lettering without a Fancy Machine
Vinyl lettering looks great on a variety of surfaces. While you could buy a Cricut or a Silhouette (and I own both), crafters who don't work with vinyl on a regular basis may not want to sink $80 plus into a fancy machine -as cool as they are! If you just need basic lettering every so often, learn my ninja trick for making vinyl lettering without a fancy machine here.

#8: 25 Delicious Gluten Free Desserts (that don't taste like cardboard!)
When my friend, Amy, got married earlier this year, she wanted to have a wheat-free dessert pot luck buffet. Honestly, I had no idea what to do! Determined that a bowl of fruit (the only gluten free dessert I could think of) was the lamest thing to bring to a potluck ever, I did some homework and put together this tasty round up of treats. See the collection of gluten free desserts here.

#9: Make a DIY Pretend Doctor Kit
I made this doctor kit for my son last Christmas for about the same price as I would have spent on a kit full of junky plastic parts that don't actually do anything. He's continued to play with it all year and based on how many of you have gone on to make your own doctor kits, I'm sure hundreds of children around the country are enjoying similar ones! See how I made mine here.

#10: 15 Last Minute Mother's Day Gifts to Make
Long after Mother's Day, this post re-emerged as a crowd favorite as people started looking for crafty gifts to give their moms for their birthdays and for Christmas. Whatever the occasion, you'll be sure to find a gift you can make for mom here. Check out the collection
