How to Make a Farmhouse Style Chicken Christmas Ornament

If you love chickens, you will love this super easy DIY chicken Christmas ornament! Even though it is actually made from a rubber child's toy, it has the look of a ceramic ornament but without all the extra weight. Of course, you can make any rubber animal into an ornament - you could make a whole barnyard tree if you wanted to! Or make it as a gift for your favorite chicken lover.

Supplies

  • Small plastic or rubber chicken figurine
  • 1/2" eye screw
  • Pliers
  • White outdoor craft paint
  • Paint brush
  • Gold ribbon
  • Blow dryer (optional)

Directions

STEP 1: Attach the eye screw

Use the pliers to firmly grip the top of the eye screw and turn it clockwise to screw it into the back of the chicken.

STEP 2: Paint

Use your paintbrush and the outdoor paint (I like FolkArt Outdoor paint because it has good pigmentation and adheres well to lots of surfaces) to paint all the surfaces of the chicken. Set aside to dry or use a blow dryer, alternating between "low" and "cold" to help the paint dry. Continue painting and drying until you can no longer see any of the original color (I found 3 coats to be perfect)

STEP 3: Hang

Once the paint it dry, thread a thin gold ribbon through the eye screw for hanging. Hang it on your tree and enjoy!

That's it!
